LAKE  MBURO NATIONAL  PARK

Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest of Uganda’ national parks.  The park is part of a 50km long wetland system linked by swamps and 13 lakes, 5 of which are within the park making 20% of the park wetlands.  All the wetlands and the fact there are no elephants to tame the vegetation, have caused an increase in the park’s woodlands.

Within the park you will find 350 species of bird and a variety of mammals such as the zebra, impala, eland, buffalo, oribi, defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi, and reedback.

In the past the wildlife of Lake Mburo National Park was virtually eliminated.  First in an effort to eliminate the tse tse fly, later to make room for ranchers, and finally, a result of poaching.  Now, with the national park status the wildlife is protected.

20% or your entrance fee is given to the local community to build clinics and schools.
