KIBALE  NATIONAL  PARK

Kibale National Park is located in south western Uganda covering 766 square km (296 square mi) stretching from the tropical rain forest on Fort Portal plateau to woodland and savannah on the rift valley floor.  Within Kibale National Park there is forest cover, swamps, and patches of grassland.

Adjacent to Queen Elizabeth National Park is a 18 km long corridor for wildlife protection between Katonga, to the south, and Sebitoli to the north.  Kibale National park is also close to the tranquil Ndali-Kasenda crater area.  Within the park there are 70 different mammals, 13 varieties of primates, and 375 species of birds.  Along with the wildlife there are 351 tree species with some reaching heights of over 55m tall and greater than 200 years old.

Kibale National Park is one of Africa’s foremost research sites with projects focusing on chimps and other primates, ecosystem, wild pigs, and fish species.
